Prepare your cleaning brief

Use these prompts when contacting a provider. They are suggested questions, not a promise that every cleaner includes the same work.

• Give your suburb, number of bedrooms and bathrooms, and which rooms need attention.
• Describe the current condition and any tasks that matter most to you.
• List the work you want, such as floors, bathroom surfaces and kitchen surfaces. Ask what is excluded.
• Ask separately about ovens, windows, inside cupboards and any other detailed tasks.
• Check who supplies products and equipment. Mention surfaces needing particular care and any product preferences.
• Describe access, parking and pets. Arrange access details directly with your chosen provider.
• State your preferred date and whether you want one visit or a recurring quote. Ask the provider to confirm availability.

Compare the same cleaning tasks

Check the room and task list in each written quote. Ask whether the amount is a fixed total or depends on time worked, and how any extra work would be approved.

Confirm the full price, any applicable GST, payment timing and exclusions. For repeat visits, ask whether the first visit has a different scope or price and what happens if you need to cancel.

The Queensland Office of Fair Trading recommends checking that the quote covers the whole job and that the business knows to wait for approval before starting. Read its advice on quotes and contracts.
